Inter coach Benitez hails Spurs development

Inter Milan coach Rafael Benitez said Champions League opponents Tottenham have come on leaps and bounds since he left the Premier League.

Benitez spent six years at Liverpool, winning a Champions League and an FA Cup before moving to Italy in the summer.

Having guided Liverpool in the Champions League every season since arriving in England, Benitez s side finished seventh in the last campaign and missed out on Europe s Premier club competition.

And it is Harry Redknapp s Spurs who have replaced them in the Champions League after their fourth spot last season.

Benitez feels the Londoners are a better team than they were during his Merseyside tenure.

Clearly there s a difference, Tottenham have improved a lot, they ve invested a lot of money in p…

France 3-0 Bulgaria: Benzema injury overshadows comfortable Les Bleus win

France earned a 3-0 victory over Bulgaria in their final warm-up game ahead of Euro 2020 but face a nervous wait on Karim Benzema after his withdrawal through injury.

Antoine Griezmann s deflected overhead kick gave the world champions the lead just before the half-hour mark and substitute Olivier Giroud wrapped things up with two close-range finishes late on.

But it is the first-half loss of Benzema to what appeared to be a thigh problem that will dominate manager Didier Deschamps thoughts in the aftermath.

Recently recalled after a six-year exile from the national team, the Real Madrid forward looked lively prior to his early departure, setting up Kylian Mbappe for a powerful shot that was well saved by Daniel Naumov.

Unfortunately for the Bulgaria go…

United can challenge City for Premier League title, says Rooney

Wayne Rooney believes former club Manchester United can challenge Premier League champions and neighbours Manchester City this season.

Jose Mourinho s United finished second and 19 points adrift as record-breaking City cruised to the title in 2017-18.

United have already bolstered their squad with the signings of Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant, and more arrivals are expected before the transfer window closes.

Former captain and all-time leading goalscorer Rooney – who left Everton for MLS outfit DC United last month – feels the Red Devils are on track to claim their first Premier League crown since 2012-13.

´Unreachable´ Guardiola ´happy to help´ new Brighton boss De Zerbi

Pep Guardiola is happy to help Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton and Hove Albion, according to the Premier League s newest coach, although the idea of matching the Manchester City manager s football is unreachable .

Guardiola and De Zerbi have long shared a mutual admiration due to their sides respective styles of play.

And the Italian, after impressing as Sassuolo coach and then seeing his stay at Shakhtar Donetsk cut short, has now joined the City great in England.

Speaking following his appointment at Brighton, De Zerbi disclosed a conversation he had with Guardiola about his new high-flying club, who lost previous coach Graham Potter to Chelsea.

Juventus 2-1 Lyon (2-2 agg): Ronaldo heroics not enough as Bianconeri crash out on away goals

Cristiano Ronaldo s brace could not rescue Juventus Champions League campaign on Friday as they crashed out to Lyon on away goals at the last-16 stage, despite a 2-1 win in Turin.

Another season will pass without European success for the Bianconeri after their talisman the competition s most prolific goalscorer came up just short in his personal quest following the award of contentious penalties at either end in the second leg.

Having lost March s first meeting 1-0 in France, Juve could ill afford another setback but conceded after just 12 minutes as Memphis Depay s spot-kick gave Ronaldo and Co. a mountain to climb.

With the aid of their own generous penalty call, Ronaldo sought to lead the expedition and had the hosts in front on the night when he followed up…

Prediction: Union Santa Fe vs Rosario

Best Odds: 6/5

Bookmaker:

Hoping to claim an immediate response late on Wednesday night, Union Santa Fe will host Rosario in midweek.

Union Santa Fe

Starting with the hosts, watching their extended flurry come to an abrupt end last weekend as they suffered a 2-1 loss away at Racing Club, Union Santa Fe are certainly seeking an immediate response here. Making a string of improvements since opening up the 2024 campaign and still battling it out at the top of the Primera Division table, Killy Gonzalez’s men have lost just one of their first seven top-flight appearances. Opening June with a 1-0 victory away at Independiente Rivadavia, the one-time Inter Milan star should find the mood in his camp at a real high. Hoping to lay down another Primera Division marker …
