Rodriguez closing in on AC Milan move

Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez has landed in Italy ahead of his proposed transfer to AC Milan.

Reports from Germany claim the sides have reached an agreement over an initial transfer fee of €18 million, potentially rising to €22m based on add-ons and bonuses.

The left-back is expected to undergo a medical on Wednesday and is looking forward to a move to San Siro.

I am happy to be here, Rodriguez told reporters after landing at Malpensa Airport.

Ousmane Dembele won´t be part of Neymar swap, insists agent

Ousmane Dembele s agent remains adamant the Barcelona winger will play no part in a mooted swap deal involving Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar.

Moussa Sissoko, the France international s representative, insists his client is completely committed to spending a third season at Camp Nou.

LaLiga champions Barca are rumoured to have offered the 22-year-old World Cup winner to PSG in a part-exchange for Neymar, who continues to be overlooked for matchday squads by the Parisians.

Dembele s former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel is now in charge in the French capital and has reportedly warmed to the prospect of a reunion.

Welbeck tested in makeshift left-back role for Arsenal

Danny Welbeck has been tested in a left-back role for Arsenal ahead of Sunday s Premier League clash with Manchester City, head coach Unai Emery has said.

Welbeck has struggled for regular football since joining from Manchester United in 2015, making only 12 starts in the top flight last season.

The 27-year-old has often been praised for his versatility and it seems Emery is keen to embrace this quality as he prepares for his first competitive game as Gunners boss.

With Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac expected to miss the visit of champions City to Emirates Stadium on Sunday, Welbeck has been trialled as a full-back during training.

Danny Welbeck is one of the players who has a multi-position possibility, Emery said. Right-winger, left-winger, striker, …

Pirlo not panicking at Juventus amid Allegri return talk

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo maintains he is not worried about his future amid reports he could be sacked and replaced by Massimiliano Allegri.

Allegri, who stepped down in 2019 after winning five Serie A titles in a row with the Bianconeri, is reportedly the leading contender to take over should Pirlo be dismissed.

Juve are fourth in the table after 33 games and almost certain not to win a 10th consecutive Scudetto. Indeed, Inter will be crowned champions should they defeat Crotone and Atalanta fail to beat Sassuolo.

With the league title slipping away and their Champions League campaign ended by a last-16 defeat to Porto, there are serious doubts over whether Pirlo will be given a second season in charge of the club.

Tammy Abraham proving his doubters wrong

In the past few seasons, some have questioned the ability of Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham to play at the highest level. The youngster has enjoyed very prolific seasons in the Championship with both Bristol City back in 2016/17 and last season with Aston Villa.

In-between the forward enjoyed a less than successful spell on loan at Swansea, who were then in the top-flight. The youngster scored just five top-flight goals, but to be fair he was playing a poor Swans side.

Proving his doubters wrong

In the last few Premier League games, Abraham has set about proving his doubters wrong. The 21-year-old has scored seven goals in his last three Premier League starts, eight if you count his own goal against Wolves last time out.

The youngster is starting to fulfil his p…

Klopp relieved to avoid slip-up on potential ´banana skin´ Burnley

Jurgen Klopp appeared thrilled – and a little relieved – that Liverpool avoided slipping up away to Burnley on Sunday as they won 1-0 at Turf Moor.

Fabinho got Liverpool s decisive goal just before half-time, bundling in at the second time of asking after Sadio Mane flicked on a corner delivery.

But it was by no means a straightforward victory, as Burnley had their fair share of opportunities in the first half.

In total, Alisson had to make five saves – only once in his Premier League career has the Brazilian been forced into more in a single game (six, against Southampton in May 2021).

Although Burnley sit rooted to the bottom of the table, Klopp was under no illusions that the Clarets represented a potential banana skin .

As such, he was i…

Rodgers will ´200 per cent´ be at Leicester next season despite Champions League blow

Brendan Rodgers will 200 per cent be in charge of Leicester City next season despite his side missing out on Champions League qualification with defeat to Tottenham.

The Foxes started the final round of Premier League games in fifth and would have finished above fourth-placed Chelsea – beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa on Sunday  had they defeated Spurs.

But Leicester failed to preserve a 2-1 lead given to them by a couple of Jamie Vardy penalties, either side of Harry Kane s strike, as they lost 4-2 at the King Power Stadium.

Kasper Schmeichel punched a corner into his own net and substitute Gareth Bale added a couple of late goals to earn Tottenham a comeback win that saw them finish seventh.

Rodgers, who guided Leicester to their first FA Cup triumph with…

Martin Odegaard believes competition for places is healthy for Arsenal

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard welcomes the increased competition within the squad – highlighted by manager Mikel Arteta now choosing to rotate his two goalkeepers – as he believes it will make them stronger.

David Raya, who signed on loan from Brentford and on whom the Gunners have a £27million option to buy, made his debut in the 1-0 victory at Goodison Park, which extended their unbeaten start to five matches.

It means England international Aaron Ramsdale’s position as established number one is likely to be challenged over the coming weeks, but Odegaard said that principle should apply to the whole squad.

Why Aston Villa are beating Arsenal to the £35m signing of Buendia

Long gone are the days when Arsenal attracted the world s best talents, it seems, as the Gunners are reportedly set to miss out on one of their primary targets to Aston Villa.

Emi Buendia is, according to widespread reports, about to join Aston Villa from Norwich City in a deal worth in the region of £35million, a club-record purchase and sale for the two teams.

Arsenal have been linked with numerous players to fill a creative void, with Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos returning to Real Madrid after their respective loan spells.

Buendia had seemingly emerged as an attainable option for the Gunners, with the Argentinian – who recently received his first senior international call-up – always likely to leave Carrow Road after playing a major role in their r…

Bitesize Prediction: Wrexham vs Dover – 26/03/22

Market: Wrexham half-time/full-time

Odds: 19/20 @

Two sides who are firmly battling it out at opposite ends of the National League table, Wrexham will welcome Dover to the Racecourse Ground on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, last seen earlier in the week putting in another eye-catching display as they stormed their way to a 3-1 win at home against Halifax, Wrexham are enjoying a real purple patch. Appearing to cruise their way to a play-off spot this season, Phil Parkinson s side are remarkably unbeaten in each of their last nine outings on the spin, recording eight victories. Undoubtedly handing a golden chance at the Racecourse Ground this weekend, the Welsh outfit have really continued to shine with their displays in the final third. With the cha…
